Green melon, pithy citrus, and dried hay, with a subtle pop of volatile acidity and a nutty, oxidative savouriness on the finish.

Based in Burgundy's famed village of Volnay, Marquis d'Angerville produces a gorgeous array of wines with immense attention to detail both in the vineyard and winery. The 2017 Bourgogne Rouge is delicate and refined, with blackberry bush, redcurrant and subtle earth followed by a little new oak spice and firm, youthful tannins. This will age magnificently, but is an absolute pleasure to drink now!

Jean-Marie Fourrier took the reins of his father's Domaine in the mid-1990s, carrying on the tradition of meticulous and painstaking vineyard management. Careful attention is put into producing pristine and perfect fruit, which, when placed into barrel essentially makes itself. The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Cherbaudes Premier Cru has a charming immediacy to it, with a compellingly floral nose of violet flowers and subtle vanilla that set the stage for opulent blue fruits, blood orange, and gentle earthiness with ferrous and mineral-like tannins. It will age beautifully over the next decade, but is drinking fantastically at present should you choose to delve in now.

Careful attention is put into producing pristine and perfect fruit, which, when placed into barrel essentially makes itself. The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St-Jacques Premier Cru is a more dense and powerful expression of Gevrey-Chambertin's terroir. Plum, black cherry, and licorice, with freshly tilled earth and white pepper leading to finely chiselled tannins and a long and detailed finish. Still a tad shy in its youth, this wine has all the hallmarks of being a very special experience if cellared carefully.
